It is a great joy to have Wade Elliott here today.
Wade, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi, I am Wade Elliott; singer-songwriter and music artist looking to inspire others to take action in their day to day lives.
We would like to know your history as an artist.
I’ve been singing, writing, performing, and recording music for over 10 years. Started singing in 3rd grade, started performing with bands in high school, got into recording in college, and it’s just evolved from there.
Tell us the story of this song.
“Hit Me Back” is about the viewpoint of being ghost’d. The story starts after a workday is done, you’ve checked your phone but no text, no call from this love interest of yours. Feeling anxious, you start to wonder why has this person hit me back. You’ve texted and you’ve called, but no reply… Day two, your anxiety sets in and you’re feeling confused and a little lost. You don’t know how to go about your day because everything was going well.
Tell us a funny story from your career.
Before Covid-19, I set up a show in DC at the venue called “The Pitch”. I wanted to start to bring more awareness to local HipHop and R&B local acts. I booked the venue, the artists, photography, videography, lights for the show, and everything else in between. Unfortunately, it was bust and I lost money. We had a headcount of maybe 10 people the whole night everyone made about $25. Just enough for gas money. It isn’t very funny, but I chose to tell this story because when I look back at it I have to laugh. It taught me a lesson. If you don’t market and promote correctly, you’re just hoping and hoping doesn’t get you really anywhere, which is what I was doing mostly. Hoping people will show up instead of giving them a reason to show up.
Also tell a story of overcoming.
I overcome something every day I wake up honestly. I overcome the tiring feeling I get when I’m working 40+ hour day job Monday-Friday and every other Saturday. Then coming home to put the work in to bring awareness to my music and brand until 9–10 at night; wake up at 4am and do again. It’s hard work but it gives me purpose in my day to day if i want to reach and complete my goals. And I encourage everyone push for they want out of life and make it happen.
